Steven E. Chaykin Apartments
The Steven E. Chaykin Apartments provides thirty units of quality affordable housing for elderly disabled persons. This new development, completed in October 2012, is named in memory of Steven E. Chaykin, Chairperson of the Housing Authority of the City of Miami Beach, who was instrumental in this affordable housing initiative.
On December 19, 2012, the Steven E. Chaykin Apartments was selected for the Award of Merit for Innovation for Sustaining Places by the American Planning Association - Florida Chapter. “Awards in this category celebrate density, diversity, and revitalization. The Steven E. Chaykin Apartments achieves all three of these goals. The building is integrated into the surrounding neighborhood in a way that preserves the neighborhood’s medium density scale and walkability. The project provides opportunities for seniors in Miami Beach to age in place in the South Pointe Neighborhood.”
On October 28, 2016, the Steven E. Chaykin Apartments was awarded the prestigious Honor Award for Design Excellence (Architecture Less than 50,000 sf) by the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. On July 21, 2018, the Florida Chapter of the American Institute of Architects awarded the development with its prestigious Merit Award of Design Excellence for New Work.

Leonard Turkel Residences
The Leonard Turkel Residences provides twenty-one units of quality affordable housing for elderly persons. This new development, completed in April 2018, is named in memory of Leonard Turkel, Chairperson of the Housing Authority of the City of Miami Beach, who was instrumental in this affordable housing initiative. The design for the development incorporates an endangered Kanapeli tree as the focal point of the garden area.

HENDERSON COURT
The Henderson Court provides five units of quality affordable housing for the elderly. The development, originally built in 1937, is located in the Ocean Beach Local Historic District and is an excellent example of low-scale Art Deco architecture. This historic rehabilitation, completed in March 2012, is named in honor of T. Hunter Henderson, the development’s original architect.
